Daisies At The Fence
SOLD © 2013 Pam Van Londen. Daisies At The Fence. Acrylic on 12x12x.5 gallery-edged archival canvas. No need to frame.
An old wooden fence and a field full of Shasta daisies is a common scene in Oregon in the summer.
Sarris Garden paintings
LOST? GIFTED? Have you seen this painting?
© Pam Van Londen 2010, Greg Sarris’ Garden 1, 8×8 oil on claybord
SOLD © Pam Van Londen 2010, Greg Sarris’ Garden 2, 8×8 oil on claybord
Sold © Pam Van Londen 2010, Greg Sarris’ Garden 3, 8×8 oil on claybord
I’m spending a day at Greg Sarris’ home in Sonoma County, California, with friends. His garden that wraps around the home is spectacular with large lavenders, olive and bay trees, a kidney pool, lizards, and many native plants.
We listened to the coyotes and owls last night and hear the bees buzzing as they spend their day in the lavender.
Estuary 4 from Newport, Oregon
$50 © Pam Van Londen 2010, Estuary 4, Oil on 8×8-inch archival Claybord panel, unframed.
The foxgloves and Queen Anne’s Lace were blooming in the estuary at Newport last week.

SOLD © Pam Van Londen 2010, Butterflies Flying 2, 8×8 oil on clayboard
$64 © Pam Van Londen 2010, Butterflies Flying 3, 8×8 oil on clayboard
For those of us suffering from cabin fever and the winter blues, keep thinking about all the wonderful earthly wonders we’ll see when we arrive at spring.
Butterflies are one of those wonders. These gentle creatures tend to cheer me up when they flutter by. I feel like a flower bestowed with a gentle kiss when one comes flying by my nose.
The Buzz and Humm of Song Birds
$72 © Pam Van Londen 2010, Buzz 1, 12×12 mixed media acrylic
$72 © Pam Van Londen 2010, Humm 1, 12×12 mixed media acrylic
The unusually warm weather felt in the Willamette Valley this week had us thinking of spring. I think the ducks and woolly bear caterpillars were confused.
Songbird series
$72 © Pam Van Londen 2010, Chirp 1, 12×12 mixed media acrylic
$72 © Pam Van Londen 2010, Tweet 1, 12×12 mixed media acrylic
Even in winter, we might hear songbirds talking to each other. They make all kinds of sounds, which I will be illustrating here for the next few weeks.
This week’s sounds are Tweet and Chirp. See them next week at the Mod Pod on 2nd street for the Art Walk.
In memory of Marie le Glatin Keis
SOLD © Pam Van Londen 2010, Poppy Field 3, 8×8 oil on clayboard
SOLD © Pam Van Londen 2010, Lavender Field 1, 8×8 oil on clayboard
Fifteen years ago, Marie le Glatin Keis led her first group of wannabe artists to Provence where she inspired us for 8 days. We sketched, ate local, and shared great views.
Her inspiration is far reaching and continues to be the reason I paint. Her presence is felt even in her absence.
Butterflies sunning
SOLD © Pam Van Londen 2010, Butterflies Sunning 1, 8×8 oil on clayboard
SOLD © Pam Van Londen 2010, Butterflies Sunning 2, 8×8 oil on clayboard
SOLD © Pam Van Londen 2010, Butterflies Sunning 3, 8×8 oil on clayboard
It’s just now winter, but why not think about warmer times? I look forward to sunning, like these butterflies. Where do butterflies hang out when it is snowy here?
Crow Nesting in mixed media
Revised © Pam Van Londen 2010, Crow Nesting, 24×18 mixed media acrylic
Since I had a whole day to play with paint, I created something unusual (for me anyway)…a mixed media piece of the current favorite subject (crows). I had left over ribbon and paper flowers from previous craft projects, so incorporated them into this acrylic painting.
Birds often find different fibers to add to their nests. This little crow found some gold ribbon, a doodad, and some transparent silky ribbon.
This painting has been revised. See the new version.
Sage and other grasses at KahNeeTa
SOLD © Pam Van Londen 2010, KahNeeTa 3, 8×8 oil on claybord
Here is another of my favorite desert scenes which includes sage, grasses, rolling hills, and a big blue sky with puffy clouds. I brings back memories of my strenuous solo hike at KahNeeTa near Warm Springs in Central Oregon.
Blooming sage in Central Oregon
$50 © Pam Van Londen 2013, Sage 1.2, oil on 8×8-inch archival Claybord panel. Unframed.
$50 © Pam Van Londen 2013, Sage 2.2, oil on 8×8-inch archival Claybord panel. Unframed.
August brings blossoms to the Central Oregon high desert. Sage and other small flowers are lighting up the cinder floor. I see Oregon sunshine and some small white flowers that I am unable to identify.
These paintings were revised in 2013.
Columbia River Traditions
SOLD © Pam Van Londen 2010, Columbia Gorge Horsetail Falls, 8×8 oil on claybord
$64 © Pam Van Londen 2010, Columbia Gorge Oneonta Logjam 2, 8×8 oil on claybord
Our family tradition is to hike to a waterfall, ford the Oneonta slot canyon, and sit in the mud at Rooster Rock on the Columbia Gorge.
This year we hiked to Ponytail and Horsetail falls again, climbed over the logjam (the kids did, while I painted), and wade in the mighty river (the kids did, while I painted).
SOLD © Pam Van Londen 2010, Columbia Gorge Rooster Rock Flowers, 8×8 oil on claybord
My granddaughter saw her first waterfalls, hiked in her new boots, and her favorite…got up to her waist in the river and muddied-up her toes.
This photo expresses her joy!
Valley View 1:
Barb and Chad’s view
SOLD © Pam Van Londen 2010, Valley View 1: Barb and Chad’s view, 8×8 oil on claybord
This painting was painted plein air last week but I spent a few days looking at it and making touchups to brighten the colors.
The use of large, obvious brush strokes is something I do in many paintings, though you don’t see them in my blog very often.
Only about half seem to turn out right the first time, so I massage them for months and perhaps get a few more that work.
Crocus revisited
$50 © Pam Van Londen 2010, Crocus 1, oil on 8×8-inch archival Claybord panel; unframed.
These crocus bloomed months ago…perhaps I want the spring to start over. Sure wish the sun would come out! I prefer sun over rain this time of year.
Black Eyed Susans
SOLD © Pam Van Londen 2010, Black Eyed Susans 1, 8×8 oil on clayboard
Corvallis is alive with flowers right now. I can’t walk 5 feet without stopping to take a picture. These flowers are from last summer’s neighborhood garden in our cul de sac.
Walk Around Campus
$35 © Pam Van Londen 2010, Walk Around Campus 2, 5×7 oil on clayboard
Spring in Oregon means lots of flowers. These bluebells and daffodils can be found a block off the OSU campus.
Flowerpot Around the Corner
SOLD © Pam Van Londen 2009, Flowerpot Around the Corner, 8x8x1 on oil on clayboard
I think this is my quickest painting yet (just an hour). I’m working on loose brush strokes and exaggerated color.
I just downloaded 64 photos from my phone which were mostly gardens around my neighborhood. Corvallis is sure a pretty place to live!
Donated to the Heart of the Valley Children’s Choir annual fundraiser.
