Thank you to Bekki for the photo to paint from. The dunes are fun to paint and so is the water. This is another painting I may keep working on.

Feeling a bit pinched? Add a nest to your room’s financial corner to increase prosperity.

These nests were painted in oil on claybord, and have a bit of sgraffito. Both come framed in black wood.

I just love photographing and painting rivers…so peaceful yet invigorating.

This 7th image of the Molalla River in Oregon uses a bit of splattering to render the rocks.

The 8th image uses sgraffito. I scratch into the paint with a pencil and render small lines.

The technique is transparent oil on Ampersand Claybord panels. Each is framed in a black wood frame.

I painted these four at the same time so that if you purchased all four, they work as a unit. They hang in one large square or side by side or vertically.

Crow Nesting in mixed media

Revised © Pam Van Londen 2010, Crow Nesting, 24×18 mixed media acrylic

Since I had a whole day to play with paint, I created something unusual (for me anyway)…a mixed media piece of the current favorite subject (crows). I had left over ribbon and paper flowers from previous craft projects, so incorporated them into this acrylic painting.

Birds often find different fibers to add to their nests. This little crow found some gold ribbon, a doodad, and some transparent silky ribbon.

This painting has been revised. See the new version.

Our family tradition is to hike to a waterfall, ford the Oneonta slot canyon, and sit in the mud at Rooster Rock on the Columbia Gorge.

This year we hiked to Ponytail and Horsetail falls again, climbed over the logjam (the kids did, while I painted), and wade in the mighty river (the kids did, while I painted).

My granddaughter saw her first waterfalls, hiked in her new boots, and her favorite…got up to her waist in the river and muddied-up her toes.

This photo expresses her joy!

I think this fountain is located in downtown Portland but I’ve forgotten. Can anyone locate it for us?

I’m hanging some work at the Albany Heartspring Wellness Center but they needed another piece for an exam room.

This image is based on a smaller daily painting done earlier this year. We’ll see how it looks on their deep orange wall.

Years ago I photographed some water floats waiting for a Portland Rose Festival race. I’m finally getting around to working on some paintings from the references.

Creek Reflections

SOLD © Pam Van Londen 2010, Johnson Creek 6 Reflections, 8×8 oil on gessoboard

This month’s Painting Challenge is Winter Creek, a complicated landscape with confusing branches and subtle colors; one I find the hardest to paint.

I am still working with a transparent oil technique, this time on gesso rather than Claybord, so I’ve left the crimson underpainting showing through and exaggerated the color where I could.

This location is my favorite in the Sellwood neighborhood of Portland.

Columbia Gorge Beacon Rock

I’ll be showing my Columbia River daily paintings at one of three locations in Feb. Stay tuned for an update.

This image was painted from a photo taken at the Women’s Forum Park on the Columbia River, Oregon side. It is a mighty river!

When you hike up to a high point, looking down at the world puts life a new perspective. It is almost other-worldly. This is a slough from viewed from, I think, the Crown Point Vista House on the Historic Columbia River highway on the Oregon side.
Write in to correct me if you know where I took the shot and what the name of the slough is.
I used a different brush and color scheme from my earlier version of this scene. I’m sure I’ll do a few more versions to try new styles and techniqiues.

I’m working with the Funny brush again today. I like the layered chaotic brush strokes it makes.

If you  know the name of this slough, please write me a comment. I’ve lost track of where I was when I took the reference photo.

Instead of showing work at the Corvallis Art guild’s 48th Annual Clothesline Sale*, I opted to paint plein air at the Mt Tabor Centennial Celebration in Portland.

I had a lovely time showing my work to the neighborhood, painting with other artists, and partaking of the parades, concerts, and people/dog/kid watching.

I sold my first plein air piece of the weekend (I forgot to take a photo of it) from the plein air exhibit, and 2 studio pieces from my booth.

Here are my second and third plein air works.

* Not sure who gave the Gazette-Times the names of exhibitors. I’m thrilled for the publicity; but I was not scheduled to be there!

Mt Tabor Contemplation

The peaceful expanse of Mt Tabor’s summit allows one to sit and contemplate, read, play music, or paint without too much bother.

This weekend, however, it will be swarming with people painting, performing, and eating cool deserts.

I’ll be painting there, but it won’t have that quiet that I prefer to paint.

In preparation for painting en plain air at the Mt Tabor Centennial Celebration in Portland, Oregon, I am painting scenes of Portland.

This image is of a view from the top of the mountain. I will find out what major street we can see here; not sure which direction I’m pointing.
