SOLD © Pam Van Londen 2009, Valley Morning 1, 8x8x1 on oil on clayboard
Driving towards the Cascade Mts in the morning when the sun is shining is spectacular!
Even if the mountains are a ways away, the lighting brightens up the grasses of the valley floor and cools off the far peaks.
This painting is the first in a series of memories of our drive from Corvallis to Lebanon this morning.

SOLD © Pam Van Londen 2010, Columbia Gorge Beacon Rock 1, 8×8 oil on clayboard
I’ll be showing my Columbia River daily paintings at one of three locations in Feb. Stay tuned for an update.
This image was painted from a photo taken at the Women’s Forum Park on the Columbia River, Oregon side. It is a mighty river!

In the middle of winter, the colors of a river take on a dusky, moody look.
This painting references the dark mauves and blue/phalo hues that reflect the various sky and cliff colors around the water.
I’ve added a touch of scraffito just for fun.
$64 © Pam Van Londen 2009, Columbia Gorge Slough 2, 8x8x1 on oil on clayboard
When you hike up to a high point, looking down at the world puts life a new perspective. It is almost other-worldly. This is a slough from viewed from, I think, the Crown Point Vista House on the Historic Columbia River highway on the Oregon side.
Write in to correct me if you know where I took the shot and what the name of the slough is.
I used a different brush and color scheme from my earlier version of this scene. I’m sure I’ll do a few more versions to try new styles and techniqiues.

I’m working with the Funny brush again today. I like the layered chaotic brush strokes it makes.
If you know the name of this slough, please write me a comment. I’ve lost track of where I was when I took the reference photo.

Due to some technical glitches, I am repainting this series. I’m experimenting with thick, squirted paint and a funny brush made of several rubber tips.
Check back next week for the final work. The paints are quite thick and take a long time to dry.
SOLD © Pam Van Londen 2009, Waiting for the Wave 1, 8x8x1 on oil on claybord
These two kids enjoyed skimming the waves two summers ago. I guess I’m feeling a bit sad that summer is over again. We do have such great adventures then.
Painting a wonderful memory helps it last. Consider commissioning a painting of your favorite memory. An original painting can stay in the family through many generations, adding to the family history and leaving an impression for your descendants to enjoy.
$50 © Pam Van Londen 2009, Coast Drama 6, oil on 8×8-inch archival Claybord panel. Unframed.
This is the first of three paintings started en plein air this week at Taft, Oregon, south of Lincoln City. I forgot to bring more white with me, so the other two are waiting for a chance to be finished up.
The waves were dramatic this week but the bay was calm. Check back later this week.

MISSING…have you seen it? © Pam Van Londen 2009, Mt Tabor View 3, 4x12x.5 on oil on claybord
Instead of showing work at the Corvallis Art guild’s 48th Annual Clothesline Sale*, I opted to paint plein air at the Mt Tabor Centennial Celebration in Portland.
I had a lovely time showing my work to the neighborhood, painting with other artists, and partaking of the parades, concerts, and people/dog/kid watching.
I sold my first plein air piece of the weekend (I forgot to take a photo of it) from the plein air exhibit, and 2 studio pieces from my booth.
Here are my second and third plein air works.
* Not sure who gave the Gazette-Times the names of exhibitors. I’m thrilled for the publicity; but I was not scheduled to be there!
SOLD © Pam Van Londen 2009, Mt Tabor Contemplation, oil on 8x8x1 claybord
The peaceful expanse of Mt Tabor’s summit allows one to sit and contemplate, read, play music, or paint without too much bother.
This weekend, however, it will be swarming with people painting, performing, and eating cool deserts.
I’ll be painting there, but it won’t have that quiet that I prefer to paint.
SOLD © Pam Van Londen 2009, Mt Tabor View, 8x8x1 on oil on claybord
In preparation for painting en plain air at the Mt Tabor Centennial Celebration in Portland, Oregon, I am painting scenes of Portland.
This image is of a view from the top of the mountain. I will find out what major street we can see here; not sure which direction I’m pointing.

$1600 © Pam Van Londen 2009, Santiam River Fish Habitat 6-panel polyptych, 16x20x.7 on acrylic on canvas
If you have a blank conference room wall at least 10 feet wide that needs imagery to excite creativity, consider a mural; but a mural you can take with you later.
This 6-panel on canvas of the Santiam River outside Sweet Home, Oregon, is bright and boldly painted. When hung tight together it acts as a mural. When hung separately, possibly framed, it can fill and entire conference room with space between each.
I painted this with acrylic paint this week and expect to finish it up this soon and hang it at Bomb’s Away Cafe in February.
If you’d like to see it in person before then, please call me at 541-760-1449.
By invitation, my paintings will appear next to Mark Allison’s and Mike Rangner’s at LaSells Stewart Center for the month of December, 2008.
Join us at the reception on December 3 from 6:30 to 8:00pm.
