Landscapes, Seascapes, and Cityscapes on display at Corvallis Montessori School

June 23, 2006 Corvallis, Oregon — Artist Pam Van Londen is showing acrylic landscapes, seascapes, and cityscapes this summer in the new lobby gallery of Corvallis Montessori School on Greeley Street behind the Garden Center. CMS is open for visitors 8:30am to 5:00pm weekdays throughout its summer arts camp program.

Van Londen returned in May from 8 months of traveling the country by motorhome. She and her daughter toured 24 states, stopping frequently to paint, take photographs, write poetry, and visit art galleries and museums.

Mostly working en plein air, Van Londen captured the diversity of terrain and architecture seen as one travels from the wet West, the dry Southwest, and the swampy South.

The most inspirational galleries and museums visited by Van Londen include the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) and Metropolitan in NYC, the National Gallery of Art in DC, O’Keefe Museum in Santa FE, New Mexico, and Judy Chicago’s Foundation and Studio in Belen, New Mexico.

“I was inspired by the number of women-only art coops with galleries around the country; they spring up in the smallest of towns; offering art to many rural areas where it may seem like there is little high art happening,” says Van Londen.

Van Londen teaches courses for Oregon State University’s Women Studies and Computer Science programs in addition to providing marketing consulting, web development, and graphic design services to local businesses.
