Driving through the desert to Sedona

One of the many peaks at Sedona, AZSince we left San Diego, we’ve been through several spectacular deserts and mountain ranges. On Hwy 78 from Brawley CA to Selome, AZ, we traversed the Algadone Dunes near the Imperial Valley and Chocolate Mts. After Selome, we wanted to stop every 500 feet to take photos of the Harquahala and Harcuvar Mts. The cacti forest on Hwys 71 and 89 were fantastic with the backdrop of granite hills. We rose up to 6000 feet and back down again twice today landing at Jerome and the Mingus Mts. We are stopped for the week in Sedona, AZ where the red formations make an incredible scene–as well as tourist attraction. I am amazed at the busy-ness of the town.

We hope to spend Thanksgiving here but the only park in town is booked. We may have to move, or head to the Grand Canyon. I have all the feast fixings we need except the turkey. I may have to head to KFC on Thursday.
