This original oil painting is on an 8×8-inch canvas panel. It comes framed in black wood.

Sarris Garden 2 Sold
SOLD © Pam Van Londen 2010, Greg Sarris’ Garden 2, 8×8 oil on claybord
This coming summer I must travel to high desert country again….I just love the flora. This painting from Greg Sarris’ garden outside Sonoma, CA was painted on a road trip back in 2011.
It sold via Etsy yesterday.
Etsy Treasuries for January
Other artisans have listed my work on their Etsy Treasuries this month.
Canyon Dreams 31
SOLD © Pam Van Londen 2010, Canyon Dreams 31, 8×8 oil on claybord
This painting is very abstracted and was painted without a reference…I just like to feel the brush strokes and don’t think too much about where they go.
Slot Canyon set
$50 © Pam Van Londen 2010, Slot Canyon 1, 8×10 oil on canvas panel
$50 © Pam Van Londen 2010, Slot Canyon 2, 9×12 oil on canvas panel
$50 © Pam Van Londen 2010, Slot Canyon 3, 8×10 oil on canvas panel
What it is about slot canyons that create excite- ment? Perhaps it is the cool air, mystery around the corner, hidden treasures, and potential danger?
These paintings are abstracted and from my imagination. They represent a frontal and/or sky view with a raging river.

Another Murder of Crows

I had some half-paintings sitting around so I finished them by adding crow silhouettes. These are made with oil paint and oil stick. Each comes framed in black.
I’m getting ready for my winter sale so must clean out unnecessary clutter from the studio. I have a stack of paintings I just can’t look at anymore, they will get a similar treatment.

Canyon Dreams 25
SOLD © Pam Van Londen 2010, Canyon Dreams 25, 8×8 oil on claybord
One of my favorite scenes while driving includes blooming sage, pinyon trees, dried grasses, dark canyons, distant mountains, and high clouds in the sky.
To keep myself awake on long road trips, I’ll pretend I’m painting the scenes. It’s like practicing without any materials.
Canyon Lake Series
$64 © Pam Van Londen 2010, Canyon Lake 3, 8×8 acrylic on canvas board
$64 © Pam Van Londen 2010, Canyon Lake 4, 8×8 acrylic on canvas board
I’m in a blue mood and wishing I were traveling to a far off desert canyon.
I’m also in an abstract painting mood…just love experimenting with empasto and iridescent colors.

SOLD © Pam Van Londen 2010, Canyon Dreams 22, 8×8
Last year I began working on a series of paintings done mostly from memory of driving through the Southwest and Eastern Oregon. The desert and high-desert grasses, dirt colors, and rock formations are fascinating and compel me to paint them.
In my usual loose style using transparent oil paint on an alizerin crimson underpainting make up this triptych.
In addition, these each use a bit of sgraffito to add texture and small details.
Kahneeta 6 with a butter knife
$64 © Pam Van Londen 2010, KahNeeTa 6, 8×8 acrylic on claybord
When I forgot to bring brushes to KahNeeTa resort earlier this year, I painted with a butter knife. The effect was a fresh look, so I’ve painted another. This one is also a KahNeeTa scene.
I pulled out paint tubes of color that I often ignore. I call them my ugly colors… Phthalocyanine Blue, Indanthrene Blue, Quinacridone Gold, and Sap Green. They are not so ugly when grouped together.
KahNeeTa 5
SOLD © Pam Van Londen 2010, KahNeeTa 5, 8×8 oil on claybord
Just another of my favorite scenes…the orange earth with a wisp of white sand, a majestic cliff, and a deep blue sky.
This one hales from KahNeeTa Resort in the Warm Springs Reservation of Oregon.
Blooming sage in Central Oregon
$50 © Pam Van Londen 2013, Sage 1.2, oil on 8×8-inch archival Claybord panel. Unframed.
$50 © Pam Van Londen 2013, Sage 2.2, oil on 8×8-inch archival Claybord panel. Unframed.
August brings blossoms to the Central Oregon high desert. Sage and other small flowers are lighting up the cinder floor. I see Oregon sunshine and some small white flowers that I am unable to identify.
These paintings were revised in 2013.
Organ Pipe Cactus NM #6
SOLD © Pam Van Londen 2010, Organ Pipe 6, 8×8 oil on clayboard
The cool shade and warm sun provide a spectacular view here at Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument.
During the blooming season, the sages and other brushes provide a variety of pastel colors.
More of the Southwest
SOLD © Pam Van Londen 2010, Organ Pipe 4, 8×8 oil on clayboard
SOLD © Pam Van Londen 2010, Organ Pipe 5, 8×8 oil on clayboard
Here are two more paintings from the Organ Pipe National Monument in Arizona. I bet it is nice and dry there! Oregon has been wet so am longing for AZ.
Organ Pipe Cactus 3
SOLD © Pam Van Londen 2010, Organ Pipe 3, 8×8 oil on clayboard
Longing for the sun. AZ, send us some!
Read about my trip to Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument in 2006.
Organ Pipe Cactus NM
SOLD © Pam Van Londen 2010, Organ Pipe 2, 8×8 oil on clayboard
Number two in a series of many to come. Arizona and New Mexico and surrounding states provide so many landforms to recreate in their glorious colors.
Have a request for a painting of your favorite landmark or mountain? Send me a photo and I’ll work on it for you.
Organ Pipe Cactus National
Monument
SOLD © Pam Van Londen 2010, Oregon Pipe 1, 8×8 oil on clayboard
Several years ago, I traveled the country to photograph and paint this amazing land we live in. Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument was quite a site at sunset.
The camera shutters were jamming shut, but I managed to get a few usable reference photos. Look for more paintings here in the next few weeks.
Canyon Dreams 21
SOLD © Pam Van Londen 2010, Canyon Dreams 21, 8×8 oil on clayboard
If you know the name of this land formation from AZ, UT, NM, please write in and let me know. I think it is from AZ but just caught it driving by.
One of my memories from childhood is that the fields of crops were labeled, which meant I was learning something as I drove by. I’d love our highways to tell us what we’re seeing as we drive along. Perhaps we can someday use GPS to provide blow-by-blow descriptions from our phones.
Lonely AZ highways
SOLD © Pam Van Londen 2010, Arizona Highway 1, 8×8 oil on clayboard
SOLD © Pam Van Londen 2010, Arizona Highway 2, 8×8 oil on clayboard
I’ve been staring at the reference photo for these two images for 4 years! I love the composition and loneliness of the photo. The mood is different when painted.
I’m sure I’ll paint more of it.
I’m using scraffito with these two as well as the works from earlier this week.
Canyon Dreams repeats
$50 © Pam Van Londen 2010, Canyon Dreams 16, 8×8 oil on clayboard
SOLD © Pam Van Londen 2010, Canyon Dreams 17, Oil on 8×8-inch archival Claybord panel, unframed.
I sold three Canyon Dream paintings this week, so am eager to repaint some of them.
They never look the same twice; I’m just not that kind of artist.
